Franklin County Authorities investigated a reported vehicle theft on Wednesday that led to the arrest of an Ozark man on felony theft charges and another report of alleged battery. It all started when authorities were called to Hidden Valley road to the report of a vehicle that was wrecked. When deputies arrived, the vehicle was abandoned and appeared to have run off the road and struck a tree with the front of the 2002 Dodge van. The van was owned by a Mandy Dawn Griggs of Green Point Drive. While on the scene of the crash, a call came in of the van being stolen from a residence across the street from where it was discovered wrecked. When authorities responded to the home of Griggs it was learned that Damion Jones reportedly had been seen taking the vehicle from the Griggs home. It was then that Jones was seen across the street from Griggs home and was reported to be bleeding from the mouth and appeared intoxicated. Franklin County EMS was dispatched to the scene and decided that Jones needed treatment for his injuries so he was taken to the hospital in Ozark. Jones claimed the injuries occurred when he fell on the road, but he later changed his story and claimed he had been attacked by a Robert Krachey earlier in the evening, Krachey was at Griggs home at the time of the alleged attack. After Jones was treated at the hospital in Ozark he was arrested on a warrant. Later authorities charged him with theft of property in connection with the theft of Griggs van. His bond was set at $2,500 by Judge Mac McCain. The matter of the battery has been turned over to the prosecutors office to consider if charges will be filed.
