The Franklin County Sheriff's Department received a call of a suicidal suspect about 7:45pm Saturday night. The caller advised that the suspect had parked his vehicle on the rail road tracks at the intersection of Highway 186 South in Alix. The suspect was reported to be in a older gray Jeep Grand Cherokee. Deputies arrived at the location on Highway 186, but no vehicle was located their, other units responding to the call were dispatched to other intersections of the highway and rail road in the area. While checking the other intersections another call came in that a train had struck a vehicle at the carbon plant road crossing. When authorities arrived at that location they found that the train had struck the vehicle in question but no one was in the vehicle. The engineer of the train said that a white male subject was standing next to the vehicle and that he fled from the vehicle seconds before the train hit the vehicle. The subject ran into the woods north of the tracks. Several law enforcement officers responded to the area along with the Johnson County K9 unit to try to locate the male subject. It was not until 1:15am Sunday that the Franklin County Sheriff's Department received a call that the subject in question was located at his parents home on Pond Creek Road and wanted to turn himself in. Franklin County Sgt. Brent Scott went to the home and took 28 year old Michael J Pledger into custody without incident. Pledger is facing a felony charge of criminal mischief and a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespassing. The report indicates that Pledger and his wife had been fighting and that is believed to be what led to Pledger's actions. No injuries are reported.
