Ozark Police Chief Cory Tedford reports that a 51 year old Ozark man died in a structure fire just after midnight Sunday morning in Ozark. A press release from the Ozark Police Department was released Sunday night about the fire:
At approximately 0007 hours on the 15th day of January, 2012 Franklin County Dispatch received a 911 call advising of a residential fire at 709 N 12th Street in Ozark. At this time Ozark P.D. Officers, Ozark Fire Department personnel, and Franklin County Deputies responded to find a mobile home nearly fully involved. As the first Ozark P.D. Officer arrived an adult male, later identified as the homeowner, Larry Baker (51 years of age), was seen running into the home. Attempts were made by Officers on scene to locate Mr. Baker; however, due to the fire, the Officers could not enter the home, and therefore were unsuccessful in finding Mr. Baker. It was not until Ozark Fire Department personnel arrived and entered the home that Mr. Baker was found lying unresponsive on the floor. Following his extraction from the home, Mr. Baker was pronounced deceased by Franklin County Coroner Shelby Floyd.
Mr. Baker was the only known occupant of the residence at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown, but will be further investigated. At this time the incident is not believed to be a result of arson.
If you have further information in regards to this incident please contact the Ozark Police Department at (479) 667-2233.
The Ozark Fire Department responded with 5 trucks and 8 personnel and were on the scene until just after 3am. The Ozark Fire Department report shows the home owned by Lindley - Nelson Inc. of Ozark. The report also shows the fire started in the northwest corner of the home.
