Many in the area probably noticed the light show Sunday night as thunderstorms were developing in the area. But not many were as up close and personal as Mulberry Police Chief Joshua Craig and others at the Mulberry Bluff Hole on Highway 64. Chief Craig tells KDYN News that he was at the park with other emergency personnel after a call of 3 lost rafters. Chief Craig reported the rafters ranging in age fro 12 to 32 were located unharmed and that he and others were still at the park as the thunderstorms started developing. That's when chaos hit. Lighting struck one of the trees in the parking knocking several people down that were standing by the tree, Chief Craig said at that point they were trying to get everyone to their vehicles and that there were kids and adults running everywhere and as he was running towards his vehicle another lightning strike knocked him and several others to the ground. The Chief said that he does not believe anyone sustained any serious injury, the original man knocked to the ground by the strike was a Hispanic male and was loaded into a vehicle by others and left the scene before the Chief could make contact with the individual, a bolo was put out for the subject to check on his welfare but no one was located. Chief Craig said that another individual was hit by a tree limb and one other sustained an ear drum injury.
