An Oklahoma man was transported to the hospital in Fort Smith following a single vehicle accident on Saturday morning on I-40 at about 11am near the 31 mile marker. A Bill Parker of Oklahoma was driving westbound in a 2007 Dodge ram pickup when the vehicle veered off the south side of the road and impacted a tree totaling the vehicle and ejecting Parker. Parker was reported to have sustained a head injury ad was transported to the hospital by Franklin County EMS. Authorities at the scene said that it did not appear the injuries were life threatening. Franklin County authorities responded to the scene to assist the Arkansas State Police, who investigated the accident. Parker told authorities that he began coughing which caused the vehicle to veer off the road into the median. Pictures of the accident scene are available at our website.
