The Army Corps of Engineers announced this week the upcoming closure of several campgrounds, recreational use areas and boat ramps in light of budget cuts. Some of those closure's will take place in Franklin County. The Citadel Bluff, Reed Mountain and River Ridge recreation area's will be effected by the cuts. According to a released from the Corps, at Citadel Bluff the cut will include closing all 25 campsites and the boat launch ramp. Reed Mountain will close for day use, but the boat ramp will remain open. River Ridge will close all 24 campsites and the boat ramp. It will also effect personnel as the Corp will not fill 11 summer ranger positions and will not fill a vacant engineering technician position.
The Corps reports that its funding was reduced by 17 million dollars and the planned closure's are forecast to save $1.9 million dollars. No timeline for closure was given, but meetings are expected to be held in area's effected.  For the complete release from the corps click here, release.
